Our candidate forums provide an opportunity for American Muslims to engage with candidates during a critical election year. This is your chance to see and hear first-hand where your candidates stand on local and national issues that are important to you.
We are proud to provide these forums with local partners in several key districts around the country during each election cycle to help you better participate in the democratic process. Although MPAC does take positions on broad policy issues, we do not endorse candidates.
Senate, House & governor
In what could end up being a showdown in the Senate in Texas, Rep. Beto O’Rourke has formed a strong grassroots campaign to bring the race to a close heat, squaring off with Senator Ted Cruz. Incumbent, John Culberson of District 7, is facing attorney Lizzie Pannill Fletcher in what some consider one of the top ten races to watch in the House. In District 22, former U.S. Diplomat Sri Preston Kulkarni is looking to unseat five-term incumbent, Pete Olson, in a district that Trump won in the 2016 election by over 7 points. Finally, with County Sheriff Lupe Valdez bringing the heat against Greg Abbott, one of the most popular governors in the country, the gubernatorial race in Texas will be a tough battle leading up to election day.
Senate & House
Nevada has some of the hottest races in the country this election. In the Senate, incumbent Dean Heller, who is the only Republican senator up for reelection in a state Hillary Clinton won in 2016, is working to hold off a challenge from Rep. Jacky Rosen with it looking to be a tight race. Some congressional seats are also in play with three different districts holding elections this November. In District 1, incumbent Dina Titus is facing businesswoman Joyce Bentley. Educator, Susie Lee is battling Danny Tarkanian for the District 3 seat up for grabs. Also, Steven Horsford faces off against Cresent Hardy, both vying for the District 4 seat after Ruben Kihuen announced his retirement.
